Alcami
Alcami is a contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) known for solving complex pharmaceutical challenges—from specialized therapies to large-scale commercial production. Their deep expertise and commitment to clients are central to how they operate.
Through a rigorous strategic process—including stakeholder interviews and in-person workshops—Ascender uncovered a core business truth: Alcami consistently goes further than expected in both its science and its service. We distilled this into a unifying Keystone Idea—Beyond Expectations—not as a tagline, but as a reflection of how the business performs at every level.
This idea became the foundation for Alcami’s brand and communications, capturing their drive to push boundaries, solve the unsolvable, and deliver for clients in ways that exceed industry norms.

To visually express Alcami’s scientific ingenuity, Ascender designed a custom particle system inspired by Tom Mohr’s “Particle Life” and Jeffrey Ventrella’s “Clusters.” These digital particles follow simple rules to form intricate, life-like movements, symbolizing the dynamic chemistry and molecular interactions at the heart of Alcami’s work. A carefully curated color palette defines presets that guide particle behavior and align with Alcami’s brand hierarchy, giving each business unit a unique yet cohesive visual identity.
In motion, the particles create a mesmerizing, microscopic ballet—swirling and clustering in patterns reminiscent of molecular reactions. This animation goes beyond decorative flair: it serves as a living metaphor for scientific exploration and collaboration. Animated particles, provided in web-ready formats, bring depth and vitality to digital touchpoints, embodying the continuous evolution of science and invention.

To empower Alcami’s team, Ascender built a custom particle generator where the team can adjust attributes like color, speed, gravity, and “stickiness” to craft unique visualizations. Saved presets integrate directly into the website or export as vector images for marketing materials. This tool ensures that Alcami’s visual language remains both flexible and unmistakably their own—eliminating the need for generic stock photography while enabling endless creative possibilities.

Across Alcami’s core materials—from business cards to brochures, marketing collateral, and presentations—the brand comes to life through a distinctive system of particle-based visuals. Unique configurations represent each business unit, creating a cohesive yet flexible identity that signals Alcami’s commitment to tailored solutions.
These dynamic patterns replace traditional stock imagery, establishing a signature aesthetic that stands apart in the competitive CDMO landscape. Within presentations, they introduce subtle motion and color cues that help organize complex scientific content—making it more engaging, intuitive, and easier to navigate.

Alcami’s extensive content library—spanning services, expertise, and scientific insights—demanded a site architecture as dynamic as its subject matter. Ascender designed a modular web system that organizes information from the bottom up, letting content dictate structure and flow. Particle visuals highlight business units and add visual depth, while flexible page modules accommodate everything from technical documentation to thought-leadership articles. The result is a website that invites exploration and makes Alcami’s broad capabilities accessible.

To further enhance discovery, Ascender integrated an AI-powered chat feature called Ask Alcami, built on ChatGPT technology. The chatbot draws on the site’s full content archive, enabling visitors to ask natural-language questions and receive instant, relevant answers with direct links and suggested follow-ups. Beyond improving user experience, the tool provides Alcami with valuable insights into trending queries and audience interests, reinforcing their reputation as a CDMO that not only shares knowledge but anticipates client needs.
